This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come eager to learn despite their various backgrounds and stories. I teach math to over 100 4th grade students. Majority of the students in my classroom and our district receives free or reduced lunch. My classroom consists of 90% African American children.
My goal is to show my 4th graders that Math is everywhere.
Math is an essential part of life. I want my students to answer their own question, “When will I use this in the real life?”
My Project
Students love reading books. Books are useful ways to reinforce concepts after they are taught. Books can make learning more fun and spice up boring math topics. Reading books about math can help bring math concepts to real life. Students can put themselves in the character's shoes to have a deeper understanding.
Books can connect math concepts to the world around us.
The fiction books that I have chosen for this project focuses on math concepts that we use on a daily basis. By donating to this project, my students will understand the importance of using math in the real world.
