My students need subscriptions to Scholastic News Magazine and Storyworks magazine.

Who is running for president? Why do we have earthquakes? What is an exciting book I can read? My students ask questions each day! I want to give them a way to find answers to some of their answers, read about current events and offer nonfiction articles for reading.
The students who attend our school are excited about learning each day!
They come to us from many different types of homes. Some students are living with extended families, single parents, or two parent homes. Ninety-nine percent of our students qualify for free/reduced lunch. Most families struggle financially, and are not able to supply basic school supplies for their students. This makes it difficult to complete projects in the classroom without the help of the community. Many of my students are already at a disadvantage because of the difficult neighborhood they live in. I want to help level their playing field in the world by providing a strong educational foundation. My students can achieve any dream they have if they believe in themselves and have the support of people who believe in them.
I am requesting 22 copies of Scholastic Magazine and 22 copies of Storyworks for my students to read in our class. Reading about current events on their reading level will allow my students to learn about current events all over the world. Scholastic also has an interactive website we can use in our classroom with our interactive whiteboard. This will provide an engaging way for my students to read and interact with nonfiction articles each week. Students will be able to read the magazines together in school and take the magazines home to share with their parents.
Having access to child friendly magazines will encourage my students to read nonfiction articles.
They will learn new vocabulary, learn about current events around the world and practice reading. My students look forward to learning about people all over the world!
