My Students

Our school has around 190 students from Kindergarten to third grade. My third-grade students come from a rural, Oklahoma school district with a high poverty rate and many mixed ethnic backgrounds. Over half of my students in my personal classroom come from low-income households and have limited supplies and materials. However, that doesn't stop them from wanting to learn and grow as much as they can!

My students are unique, witty, silly, and all-around fun.

They love learning new things!

My Project

Having the Scholastic News articles/magazines in our classroom will provide my students with the opportunity to be exposed to a different type of text material that they aren't used to seeing in their everyday lives. Most come from low-income households, so a lot of them do not have access to this type of text source. In our classroom, we will use these to dive into different subject topics and also discuss how students can read different information from other types of text sources other than just their textbooks at school.

These magazines are also a great source of nonfiction material and current event topics.

This magazine will allow my students to stay up-to-date on world topics that they hear about every day. The ability to learn new information is all around them in the world.
