My Students
My forty fourth-grade students come from various cities and towns in Connecticut to learn, grow and become empowered agents of change together every day at our year-round school. This group loves to explore new ideas and work collaboratively to solve problems and come up with solutions that benefit the community as a whole.
In this class, we are always looking towards the future.
Students are always looking for ways to better the world for themselves and those who come after. It is truly a wonderful community of learners who show genuine interest in the world around them. I am privileged to help them on this journey of educational empowerment.
My Project
It is crucial that students are able to link their in-class learning to real-life. I have seen the excitement on my student's faces when they realize what we are doing in class is connected to a real person, event or story. We need Scholastic News to allow for those connections to occur in real time, and for students to gain exposure to news on two platforms; online and print.
My students are noticeably more engaged when they realize that our in-class work is important outside of the walls of our classroom.
Scholastic News will provide a non-fiction option for students to learn about current events on two platforms. We will be able to incorporate Scholastic News into our daily reading stations and help provide accountability and structure to independent work.
