My students are a diverse group. They come from numerous cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds. About a third are in families that struggle with poverty. Reading levels range from kindergarten to tenth grade. With their different learning styles, it can be challenging to meet all students' needs while still addressing curriculum guidelines.
All students in my classroom have different learning styles but still have the opportunity to be active learners, both as leaders and by learning from others.
We group students in a variety of ways throughout the day according to their learning needs. This allows us to focus on each individual's strengths as a learner.
My multi-age 1st through 3rd classroom allows them to fill a variety of roles, and I want to provide them with materials to keep them active, allow them to pursue personal interests and passions, and help them become successful as learners and people.
My Project
My students love to read! The multi-age students in our classroom, grades 1-3, are reading a wide range of leveled books. Some are reading early literacy materials while others are reading chapter books.
My students also enjoy reading and listening to audio books on their iPad.
Whenever they have an opportunity to do an activity after finishing their work, they often head to the bookshelves or their book box to find something they want to read or continue reading.
I want to provide new books and supporting materials for my students to give them additional opportunities to extend their learning! Unfortunately, it's been awhile since I have been able to add new books and materials to our classroom library. I am hoping to add some additional fiction books, nonfiction texts, and more!
Students who want to enjoy fantasy, realistic fiction, biographies, classics and more deserve to have materials that are in good condition, written by new and familiar authors, and are popular among their peers or for students at their reading level.
By providing new reading materials, I hope to continue to promote in my students a strong interest in and love for reading.
