My Students

My classes are made up of very unique and diverse students. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. Our school has about a 40% ESL population. The students are generally motivated to learn, but do require a fair amount of diverse materials to keep them engaged.

Providing a variety of materials on a regular basis will help me keep the students focused.

With an age range from 11-13, it is difficult to keep up with their ever changing interests.

My Project

By having a wide variety of high interest books for my students to read, I am hoping to motivate them to read more often and for a longer period of time. It is only by reading that they will become good readers. Since there is such a variety of different reading levels and interests in our room, these classroom libraries will help in allowing students a greater choice on content and reading levels.

If students find a topic that grabs their interest, they are more likely to stick with it and read until the end.

This will help to build stronger readers with greater reading stamina. It is a fact that the more students read the more their vocabulary and comprehension will increase. Reading allows children to explore places they have never been.
