Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year, I have twenty-eight eager fifth graders that come from all walks of life. Some come from ideal backgrounds, while most, come from less than stellar backgrounds. Each and every student in the school qualify for free breakfast and lunch. They come to school each day ready to learn despite the hardships they face at home. They are eager to dive into new topics and absolutely love to share and participate in new innovative lessons and exciting topics.
My Project
My students have shown a knack for reading already this year! Since 28 students come with 28 individual sets of likes and dislikes, I'm looking to add more variety into the classroom library. Students in my classroom like to read novels and graphic novels alike. My school media center doesn't have a large collection of new titles, so I would like to have books that will hold their interests and keep them reading in my classroom.
Students who can find books with topics that interest them will find reading to be much more enjoyable and fun!
Helping students begin to learn that reading is fun is the perfect way to build better readers.
