My students need guided reading book sets. I thought it would be fun to update my collection of guided reading sets to include popular books and current titles.
My 3rd grade classroom is comprised of 26 students from an urban neighborhood in Denver. Many of my students come from bilingual households and receive free and reduced price lunches.
Our school is an International Baccalaureate School and we focus on taking our learning into action.
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and
caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through
intercultural understanding and respect. I hope to develop my students into life long learners and inquirers. I want them to take their classroom learning beyond the classroom.
Access to learning based games will help make center time inquiry based. I think practicing their skills learned during instruction time is powerful.
My Project
Please help me update my collection of guided reading book sets. Each student in my class meets with me daily in a small group, called guided reading. To inspire young readers, I would like to add current titles like How To Steal A Dog to my guided reading book titles. Kids love this entertaining yet sad book. I also added a graphic novel like Captain Underpants to appeal to 3rd graders. All books are perfectly leveled for a variety of readers.
Small guided reading groups are a great way for me to motivate students, teach reading comprehension, build phonological awareness, and discuss current chapter books.
These book sets will help me accomplish this goal!
