Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Students and teachers in younger grades have a difficult time finding nonfiction reading materials at an age appropriate reading level. Reading materials, such as Time for Kids, for the students in grades K-2 would be a valuable and enjoyable resource to the teachers and students.

We are a TItle I funded school.

As part of this funding, our students are provided free breakfast and lunch each day. Our Title I elementary school serves more than 700 students from kindergarten to fifth grade. As the media specialist, I will have the opportunity to serve all students in every grade this year, along with their classroom teachers.

My Project

Time for Kids magazines will be a source of nonfiction, informational text used to assist students with fluency and comprehension skills across subject areas and used throughout the year to teach the Common Core State Standards. Finding nonfiction, informational text in a variety of formats is quite difficult in grades kindergarten, first and second.

It is my hope that this project will provide my students with a successful start to their year and that they will begin a lifelong love for reading and learning.

Please assist us in acquiring these much needed materials.
