Ms. Amos from Greenville MS is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need books that they can relate to as well as books that are within their reading range.

My 5th graders love reading when given the right motivation and the right book. They have really enjoyed books like A Wrinkle in Time and One Crazy Summer. After every assigned section of reading with these two books, they were full of questions and eager to learn new things. It was hard to get them to stop discussing the books!
They have an eagerness to read and explore the world beyond them.
My fifth graders get excited when they embark on a new reading journey. They are a very respectful and bright bunch, and they are on their way to becoming lifelong lovers of reading.
As I organized my class library, I noticed two things. One, my struggling readers did not have much to choose from because many of the books are on a fifth grade reading level or higher. Struggling readers needs books they can handle independently.
Secondly, our classroom library lacked diversity, Many of the books in this order have African American characters as the main character.
Over 90 percent of my students are African American. Therefore, I thought that it would be nice to have their ethnicity represented in the books they are required to read. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
