My Students

I recently began working at a new school and have already fallen in love with the students in my kindergarten class. They are very energetic and eager to begin each new task. They come into the classroom and they want to "do" everything right away. I have to apply the brakes long enough to give instructions in particular activities to support their learning.

I was recently away for six days, and the hugs and expressions of love I received upon my return were incredible.

One student practically threw herself into my arms as I walked on campus.

We have an hour a day where all the kindergartners are divided by needs and we "share" students. This has allowed me to get to know not only my students, but many other students in my grade level. It is also a wonderful way for all the teachers to work together to help students succeed.

My Project

I have many students that are visual learners and/or have special needs. Having students of different abilities and needs requires creative lesson planning. In addition, the location of the school makes field trips to museums and other activities difficult.

A projector will allow me to engage my students with a different tool that can be used as a sing-a-long, history lesson, field trip, and much more!

With a projector, I can play educational songs and videos during transition times to encourage students to move quickly onto the next activity. I can take the students on field trips through visual museum tours without leaving the classroom. I can also play the short lessons that come along with the Scholastic magazine that I purchase for my students each month. A projector will allow me to broaden the horizons of my students by allowing us to explore music, geography, history, literature, and other subjects.

Currently, having a range of students complete worksheets at the same time is difficult. With a 23:1 ratio and using a whiteboard, it is hard to clearly explain each problem to the class since we do not have the opportunity for a small group. With a document reader, we can go through the worksheet together, allowing the entire class to see each problem as we work on it as a unit.

A document reader and projector will make a dramatic difference in the variety of material I am able to present and broaden the way I can interact with my students. Thank you for your consideration!
