My classroom is full of eager learners in an urban setting, Milwaukee. My students come mostly from economically challenged households. Many students come from households that have very limited reading resources available.
My students are very diverse in their ethnic backgrounds.
Some students are special education students and even more are English Language Learners. My students enjoy reading, especially when they can make connections to the text.
My classroom text books are out of date, so current history/events are missing.
My Project
I am looking to enhance my students' learning through the use of Junior Scholastic Magazine and The Holocaust Magazine. These magazines will be used along with text books and online apps to help my students learn about Current Events and the Holocaust.
I have a very diverse student population and would like to use the information from the magazines to intrigue students on the topic of Current Events and the Holocaust.
These magazines will provide topics for great discussion and learning. We discuss current events every week and the Junior Scholastic magazine will aid in this. My eighth graders also study the Holocaust and the Holocaust magazine will be used along with the curriculum materials I already have.
