Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are special because they love to come to school each day! On weekends or school breaks, I will ask the students if they had a good time off, and a lot will say no because they missed school and their teachers. It is heartwarming and humbling because for a lot of students, school is the best part of their lives. They know they have people at school who genuinely care about them and want the best for them.
My students need help buying supplies as many of them cannot afford the necessities to be prepared every day for school.
This is a fact of life for many of them, so I need to use unconventional ways to obtain what they would deem an extra supply, but for my technology class, I deem a necessity.
The school I teach in is a wonderful generational neighborhood. A lot of my current students are the offspring of my former students. In addition, many of the teachers have been teaching at this same school for decades, myself included. It is really a wonderful school to teach in with amazing students and staff members to spend my days with.
My Project
Headphones are a necessity for many of the online projects we complete in computer class. This is especially true for the Kindergarten through 3rd grade students.
I prepare lessons for my students that require online websites where sound is essential.
These websites verbally give instructions and "talk" throughout the lessons to the students. A lot of the websites are interactive and they will ask the students questions, instructing the students to choose the correct answer while correcting them if they get the answer wrong or praising them verbally for getting the answer correct.
Headphones may be an extra school supply as it isn't a necessity for other classes like pens, pencils, paper, etc., but for my Technology Education Class, headphones make all the difference in the world, thus making them a need rather than a want for my students.
