Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title I, with a population of 99% of our students economically disadvantaged. All of our students are on a free breakfast, lunch, and dinner program. Our students are passionate about learning, but many lack access to the necessary resources for academic learning at home. Our school is crucial to our surrounding community, as it serves as a safe place for our students to learn and grow. I teach all 3rd grade students English Language Arts and Reading and Social Studies.
My Project
Extra, Extra! Current Event Classroom Magazines!
This project will allow all of 3rd grade students at my school to have another element of exposure to non-fiction, high-quality, and academic literacy.
Introducing these magazines to my students will allow me to teach them literacy using real life examples of how non-fiction is used in everyday life.
By donating to this project, you will give over 40 students weekly and monthly subscriptions to Time and Scholastic Magazines, which I will build mini-lessons from and incorporate into my weekly lesson plans of English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science.
I remember having classroom magazines in school when I was in elementary school and it fostered a love of reading and excitement- I had something new to look forward to each week.
With your donation, you will help change the lives of over 40 students and help foster a love of lifetime reading!
