The students and staff in our school are amazing! We are a Title I school, where many students live in low-income housing, hotels, shelters, or with other families. Every student here receives a free breakfast and lunch each day and many receive food to sustain their families over the weekend. Some only speak Spanish or French at home but they all love to come to our school because they know they are loved and treasured by each of us. We are a school that works very hard to make sure our students and their families are given every chance possible to succeed!
My 5 and 6-year-olds kindergartners are some of the kindest, sweetest kids I have had the privilege of teaching.
They help each other without being asked to do so or to receive praise for doing it! Whether it be a child with special needs who needs help finding the right page or the child with a broken arm who needs help carrying his lunch tray, they are ready to assist. They are also very eager to learn and being the sponges, they are, they are learning very fast! I just want to make sure that they have fun too!
My Project
There are 23 students in my classroom and there will be at least one bathroom accident, milk spill, slide in dirt/mud/water incident, or throw up incident a week. It is inevitable! Most of these kids have an extra set of clothes in the classroom just in case one of the above happens.
However not every child has enough clothes to leave a full set of clothes at school!
So when the accident happens either the parent has to be called, or a long walk to the office, which can be embarrassing and unnecessary if I have clothes on hand to assist them!
I am requesting boys and girls long and short pants as well as a few shirts. I have plenty of under garments but I have completely run out of pants. This will be less stressful and not at all embarrassing. They can go to our "Clothes Closet" and retrieve the articles of clothing they need go into the bathroom we have in our classroom and change. This also takes less time away from instruction! Just these simple things can help a child feel safe and loved!
