Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every year I get students who have high expectations from me as their science teacher. Very often I would start the lesson with "Guess what we are going to do today?" That would make them open their mouths and eyes and just wait anxiously. And every time, I have something exciting.
My students are from different cultures, ethnicities, and religions.
We are a very diversified school. They attend our school which has no budget for updating and enhancing 21st Century skills they will need to possibly become America's Future Scientists and Engineers. My students come to our school with the expectation of experiencing my unique lessons that include a real - life application.
My Project
My students will use chromebooks to participate in a computer programming research called Promoting Equitable and Accessible Science: Extending the Seeds of Science/Roots of Reading Curriculum to Middle School. This one month curriculum incorporates a focus on “disciplinary literacy:” integrating hands-on investigations with reading, writing, and talking science. With this computer programming lessons my students will share ideas and complete the research about. This project also will teach my students the new and unique middle school approach to support their understanding of these practices. Using chromebooks will help my students to understand and master the new (21st century) advanced and sophisticated program, where they will learn to use simulations to create scientific models.
Students will interact with the curriculum through digital devices such as iPads and engage in interactive simulations and class activities designed to enhance understanding and build science abilities and practices.
