My students are amazing! They enjoy learning and they learn best by doing hands-on projects, and by conducting experiments. They are curious, tech-savvy, and eager to learn about photography, visual communications, photoshop, and video production.
One of my favorite things about my students is how innovative they can be when given resources to create projects.
I enjoy fostering an environment where students can focus on taking their own ideas and create projects by hand. At RNTHS, we have a unique and diverse group of students.
Fifty-five percent of the student body is made up of youth from economically disadvantaged families or students who receive free and reduced lunches. Additionally, the RNTHS student body includes about twenty percent, English learners. We do have a career and technical education department that features digital photography, advertising, graphic design, business, and computer applications. More specifically in the digital photography classes, the percent of English Learners is much higher it is closer to 70 percent. Our students learn best through unique experiences and projects. This project is an opportunity for them to do just that.
My Project
The goal of the project is for students to demonstrate an understanding of the visual and emotional impact of photographic images. In this project, learners will have many creative choices to make. Students will mix multiple high-tech visual mediums with more traditional studio art mediums to create portraits in unconventional, multimedia styles. This will be a hands-on project where students will use the supplies to create photographic portraits using digital technology and studio art materials.
The students will be able to express their emotions and ideas while creating traditional portraits in untraditional ways.
Learners will directly benefit from the requested resources by having art supplies to create mixed media portraits of people in their community and our school.
Having the supplies and equipment for this project will allow students to learn and develop technical skills, communication skills, creative thinking skills, and career skills. Developing these skills through photography will help prepare students for future careers.
