I am beyond blessed to teach 29 wonderful bundles of energy who come to school each day ready to learn and have fun. These kids are truly going to one day change the world! However, many of the students come from homes that lack financial stability. Our school is a Title I school, where the majority of the students receive reduced or free lunch. Even though the students face hardships at home, they give all they have in order to learn and grow.
Most of the children enter kindergarten with no preschool experience.
Many of them start school without knowing letter names or sounds, and some are unable to write the letters. Many also have little to no number sense. This does not dampen their desire to become successful readers and mathematicians. Though there is much to be learned in order to succeed academically, my students do not give up. I am so lucky to be surrounded by such hard-working students every day.
My Project
These wonderful LEGO set will be used in many different ways in our classroom. These lego sets will be used to allow students to express their feelings about the Covid-19 virus and how it impacted their families while we were out of school. Often times, I find that students struggle to explain their emotions and these two Lego sets will provide one way that the students would be able to express themselves. These Lego sets will be used at the dramatic play center and will allow the kids to explore and build items that correlate with what we are learning at the time. Language and communication skills will be improved upon because these sets will give the students opportunities to talk to each other through play and their fine motor skills will also improve by building and taking things apart.This LEGO center will also be used to help children learn and understand many math skills. Children can learn one-to-one correspondence by counting the blocks needed to make certain shapes and objects. Patterns can also be made and recognized with this set.
