This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is called 'The Peace Academy'! It is where 'peace education' is taught. Peace education comprises many aspects of a child's social and emotional health. Students enjoy mindfulness activities which helps them cope with their worries.
The Peace Academy promotes peace and well-being.
During a parent-teacher conference, a parent told me that the Peace Academy was her child's favorite class, because it relaxes her. The students are excited to come to a class where they can show off their personalities. This makes for a fun class.
My Project
If funded the materials will serve as a hybrid model for distance learning and homeschool. The 'Growth Mindset Daily Practice Journal' will be used not only as a self-reflection project, but also to decrease screen time. For example, instead of having to use their laptop, they will use pen and paper to write their reflections. They can share them with the class during zoom meetings or keep them private. The games will be played when school is back in the building.
The games will help not only build on their social skills (working together as a group) but will serve as a prompt to help them work through their feelings.
The games are designed to be used at each table. Each table will have approximately 4 students who can play while socially distant. The games can also be played individually. The Logo game is an individual game for PK-2nd grade to help them navigate some of their emotions, both good and bad.
