Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students come from single-parent homes; some have been homeless, yet this does not stop them from possessing a strong desire to learn. Our school is a Title I school with 96% of students on free or reduced-price lunch, yet you would never know this from the attitude and strong spirit of the students.
We are a college-bound environment; all students are working towards the goal of going to college with support and help from all staff.
My Project
These colored pencils and paints will set my students' creative minds going! Whenever we read a story, my students want to express their understanding of what they have just experienced through art.
When I read Charlotte's Web, my students were drawing Charlotte and Wilbur for weeks; they were internalizing what they had heard and making it their own.
Through art, my students are able to express themselves and make meaning out of what they experience. I have several students who can't write well enough to communicate their thoughts or feelings. Drawing is their only way right now. These art supplies will go a long way with my students.
