Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
College for Certain!!! That is our motto! Our 2nd grade students have the desire to go to college! They are willing to do anything to make this dream a reality despite the challenges that they face in their underprivileged community everyday.
Our little 2nd graders full of energy and ambition to succeed!
They are attending a first year school in a low-income area in Southern California. They maintain a positive attitude despite coming from homes where there is often struggle and strife. Unfortunately, out of 24- only 3 are at grade level. Every day, the students use white board markers to work on their workstations for one hour that reinforce their learning. They are always eager to do these workstations as they know it is one step closer to college.
My Project
Who knew that something so simple as a dry erase marker could do so much? In our classroom, the dry erase markers and sheet protectors are very valuable items. Everyday our students do guided reading with me in small groups. In the meantime, the students who haven't been called yet for guided reading, do workstations. At these stations, the students do interactive assignments that reinforce their learning. White board markers are also used during math for their white boards or for math facts. These small resources allow for me to see what areas I need to help my students with, especially when they use the whiteboard markers during math. These markers make reading and math fun and interactive!
Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, simple materials such as dry erase markers are no longer easily accessible to the teacher and to the students.
These simple tools are essential to the classroom because it allows for students to practice what they've learned and to also learn from their mistakes. My students are one step closer to college, and it can all be thanks to YOU.
