Explosive Student Interest Leads to Job Openings for EV3 Robots!
My students need additional Lego Mindstorms EV3 robots for our competition robotics teams, to keep up with the explosive growth of this awesome program.
When the announcement was made that we were trying to put together a competition robotics team, I was marginally hopeful that we would be able to get enough students to field a team. Boy was I surprised!
The response was amazing and we were able to put together two teams of 10 to compete.
The students' enthusiasm and willingness to work hard, come in before and after school, and travel to competitions has pushed me to try harder for them...to give them what they need to shine.
At their first event, neither team scored a single point. Undeterred, they returned to school ready to try again. At their 2nd event, both teams scored points and 1 team won the alternate spot for the Regional competition. That is quite an accomplishment in a very short time.
Fast forward to year number 2.....41 students have signed up so far this year for competition robotics. This is a great problem to have....now we have to find a way to make it happen for everyone.
My Project
Due to increased enrollment in competition robotics, my students are in need of additional Lego Mindstorm EV3 kits. Each kit provides everything my students need to design, build and compete with other area middle schools. Competition robotics gives students the opportunity to develop leadership and research skills, analyze information, problem solve, develop leadership skills, explore math and science and have fun.
We cannot design it, build it or test it if we don't have it.
As schools place a greater emphasis on STEM programs, and students develop greater interest in those programs, the need for materials has never been greater.
