I work as a school social worker for a small charter school in the rural Northwest corner of Connecticut. My kids are a great bunch of young adults who have not had a history of success in their previous academic settings. They come to my school looking for a new academic experience, and a fresh start.
All of my students come to me with a variety of needs, but also with a desire to overcome their past struggles and to improve their academic abilities.
They know that their education is a key part of their future prospects.
My students are some of the bravest young people that I know. They acknowledge and accept that they have had struggles in their pasts, but they have also learned to refuse to accept that their pasts will prohibit them from being whatever it is that they want to be in the future. I am so proud of them and I am honored to have the opportunity to help them to prepare for life after high school.
My Project
We live in a digital world, and I am a firm believer that we must do all that we can to prepare our children to thrive in this world. Not having access to technology in a classroom is doing our students a disservice.
Please help me to provide our students with technology upon their return to school after the quarantine so that they can use all of the educational resources available to them on-line, as well as a way to access these resources.
Since we lent out all of our Chromebooks to our students who did not have access to technology during the quarantine, obtaining new Chromebooks to replace these would allow us to provide technology to our students upon their return to school.
