Pre-K students love learning. My job as their teacher is to give them experiences that cause them to want to explore, question, and find answers. These are the experiences that will help them become the critical thinkers and problem solvers ready for the 21st century.
My class is a great group of creative, inquisitive, and special Pre-K students.
They are eager to learn, and full of energy, and they love being in school. They are hard workers in need of resources to help them become critical thinkers and problem solvers ready for the 21st century. We live in a small town in Oklahoma and have a high free and reduced price lunch population. Any advantages I am able to give my students will help them become lifelong learners. Our Pre-K is the first real "school" experience that my students have. They are so excited to come to "big school". I love working with these students and getting the opportunity to be there when they have their "aha" moments. I want to make their first experience in school to be as meaningful and exciting as possible.
My Project
I have been a Pre-K teacher for the past eight years. I am ready to take on the challenge to make tech use in the class an active learning experience. So many of our students of poverty do not have the access, nor the skills needed to access technology appropriately. This project will put developmentally appropriate technology into the hands of my Pre-K students, so they can engage in meaningful learning activities in the modern classroom.
The Galaxy Tablets will be a great way to incorporate technology into my classroom.
With the aid of the Galaxy Tablets and my classroom computers I will use a kid friendly program I learned about at professional development that allows students to develop a student-driven digital portfolio that empowers them to create, reflect, collaborate and share what they are learning at school. This will also give the parents real-time glimpses into their child’s school day and help them stay in the loop and give them an opportunity to support their child's learning at home.
The Galaxy Tablets will also enable me to install the stories of the week for the students to use in a listening center. The students will be able to listen to books on the tablets as well as other stories available from our library. The cordless head phones will help my students get caught up listening to the stories and songs, not wires. The protective cases will insure outstanding protection against drops and other impacts.
Technology provides a great opportunity for our young pre-K students to gain fine motor skills, communication skills, build vocabulary, and gain confidence in their unique abilities. I would love that opportunity for my students.
