Help me give my students a complete set of light table sensory play materials, a light table sensory tray, rainbow liquid sensory viewers, swirling glitter sensory balls, and water beads.
Pre- Kindergarten is a new and exciting experience for students and their families. It is their first experience with school. They are like sponges ready to soak up every bit of information we can give them. I am part of a team of six Pre-Kindergarten teachers, two are special needs, one is Head Start, and one is off-site at a local childcare center.
My students come from generational, low-income families that frequently move from school to school within the school year.
The students at my school speak up to ten different languages. A few of the home languages for my school are Spanish, Vietnamese, and Burmese. In fact, we are the school for resettled Burmese refugees. Most students have little academic support at home. At our school, we strive to give our students every opportunity for success.
My Project
My students are naturally inquisitive about the world around them. They have a light table in the classroom that they enjoy exploring animal x-rays and building materials already. They were wanting to explore colored and regular water with the light flowing through it. The sensory tray accessory will give them the ability to explore wet materials without damaging the light table. The water beads will give them the opportunity to explore textures as well as visual discrimination. The set of sensory play materials will also allow my students to work on fine motor skills in a new and interesting way.
