Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I have the best students any teacher could ask for. They are caring, giving, passionate, intelligent, funny, and full of energy. Working with this group of students each day is a reward. I know that they will accomplish so many things this school year and beyond this year.

I want my students to grow as readers this year, and having an expansive classroom library would really help them develop into well-rounded scholars and citizens.

Our class has future lawyers, an OBGYN, a graphic designer, a writer, NBA players, teachers, nurses, chemists, and veterinarians. We believe everything is possible, we believe in commitment and hard-work, and we believe that we can reach all of our goals.

My Project

So many teenagers have access to social media and cell phones and search these tools for entertainment. Reading books for fun has become a dying pleasure. The books that my students really enjoy fall under the Urban Literature category. The characters face real life problems, are relatable, and are often the same age as my students. We currently have half a book shelf of urban lit, and it's the genre that is by far their favorite. I am asking for two different urban underground book sets for independent reading in our classroom.

With your donation, I will be able to expand my classroom library and supply the books they really love.

We've gobbled up the Bluford Series and have been in search of other great books to read. These Saddleback books would fit perfectly on our shelves.
