My students need these books to expand their world. They need to have the capability to explore places beyond our small town and ideas that they wouldn’t normally encounter.
My students are fiercely loyal to their friends, incredibly engaging storytellers, and empathetic classmates who thrive on the happiness of others. They deserve books that can allow them to build their vocabulary and hold their attention because they have asked for them, and in my eyes, they have earned them. Our neighborhood is fairly average-sized, our school hosts 850 students from 6-8th grade, and the students have mostly grown up together. They are respectful of the needs of others, and since they have asked for books, you can rest assured knowing that they have thought about their classmates first.
My Project
My students will have the opportunity to read new and exciting novels, as well as the classics that they deserve to be able to read in the classroom. They will use these novels to fulfill their Accelerated Reader goals, as well as personal reading goals. My hope is that they find one book this year that makes them like reading enough to start another, then another, until they become avid readers. These books will make a difference by allowing them the opportunity to expand their reading options. I want them to travel to new places without ever needing a passport.
