As a second grade teacher in a 40 year old school, my resources are very limited. Many of my own dollars have been spent to stock my classroom with manipulatives, books, curtains, carpets and other items which inspire learning and a home-like environment.
About 50% of my school's population is below the poverty line. Unfortunately, these students do not get the opportunity to research online or in books, travel and learn about different cultures, people and places. I'd love to take them on a trip to Africa (imaginary of course)! :)
My classroom needs supplies to help these children get a taste of these experiences! Books, games, and a rug, where they can see the world and its oceans and continents would help them begin to understand the amazing world we live in.
By donating these materials to my classroom, you are giving a child an experience to vividly understand the world and its people, an understanding that will help them blossom into well-rounded young people.
