Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have twenty-seven, bright, energetic 2nd grade students who come to school eager to learn everyday. Some of the students in my classroom are learning English as their second language, so literacy instruction is extremely vital.
I work in an extremely diverse school in Queens, where the students work hard everyday to participate in hands-on, engaging, and rigorous activities.
Our school works hard to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
We are extremely proud of our school teams and clubs, like the Green Team, the basketball team, the soccer team, and cheerleading. Our students and families even have the opportunity to take part in multiple family nights like Multicultural Night, Math Night, and Family Fitness Night!
Our school is a place where all students are able to express themselves and embark on an educational adventure!
My Project
These nonfiction books will give our students access to topics they are passionate about. During nonfiction reading students have the opportunity to discover and share their knowledge with their peers. This is something they enjoy and look forward to. We want to instill a love of reading!
With these materials our students will be able to partake in nonfiction book clubs.
During these clubs children will discuss and share vocabulary, new learnings, and their curiosities. Nonfiction allows little learners to find their passion and share it with the world!
As our students put it: "We need nonfiction because we need to learn the truth about the world!"
