My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I'm always looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, clever, and very spontaneous.
They like to move, they love to read and they love lots of positive attention.
Many of my students are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These circumstances may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their academic potential and growth. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
My students will be exposed to different ways of thinking and creating different activities in the Tech Museum. All their participation in our field field trip will create a huge impact in our classroom by increasing our STEM awareness. Every student should have the opportunity to learn about creating a design regardless of the school they attend. It’s impossible for our school district to provide our students with hands on activities. It is even more difficult to receive STEM support for field trips.
STEM education helps to bridge the ethnic and gender gaps found in math and science fields.
The Tech Museum will teach us how to communicate with each other as we work with technology. It’s important for all students to learn how to work and communicate with each other since it’s required skills for many jobs. We can acquire team work skills for the future.
