Exploring the Middle East

My students need a classroom library of 16 books about the Middle East that complements our Arabic Language curriculum.

I am a high school Arabic teacher working with students in the inner-city. At our school, we only offer the foreign languages of Chinese and Arabic. It is amazing to witness how many of my students have taken on the challenge of learning Arabic and are always looking for ways to learn about the culture of the Arab world.

Because it is so important for students to learn about different regions in the world and understand the hardships that others face on a daily basis, I think that students should be able to access literature and texts that help them connect to these places in the world. I am not just teaching a foreign language. I am also teaching a foreign history and culture. I need resources beyond a language textbook to make this happen.

This grant will fund a classroom library that we need in order to make connections with the Middle East and the rest of the world. My students would greatly benefit from having access to books of poetry, narratives, and even some historical texts.

Please consider helping a group of high school students connect with the Middle East on a deeper level. We need to establish these connections in order for peace to remain in the future.
