Exploring the Importance of Socialization in Language Development

Help me give my students toy trucks, dress up dolls, craft scissors and a paper puncher to participate in choice games. Socialization plays a critical role in language development because it provides children with opportunities to practice and refine their language skills.

My Project

Social engagement helps children to develop their conversational skills. Through conversations with others, children learn how to take turns, stay on topic, and use appropriate language for different social situations. They also learn how to ask questions, make comments, and express their ideas and opinions. My students, who are all recent immigrants, engage with one another and create a supportive and secure learning community while they navigate a new social environment. Since our classroom is a secure environment it makes it much simpler for my students to muster the courage and fortitude needed to begin their path of learning English in a pre-kindergarten setting. The key to student quick improvement is creating a strong community where they can take risks and fail together. Every day in our classroom, children will participate in choice games. Students will have the opportunity to play with materials such as dolls, trucks or work with crafts. I want them to have a wide variety of possibilities, so that everyone may participate.
