Exploring the Exciting World of Electricity and Magnetism
My students need Coulomb's Law apparatuses and magnetic field viewers, so they can explore the properties of electricity and magnetism.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are all young scientists beginning to discover the wonders of physics. We love to explore new concepts and ask questions together. If you came into my classroom you might see us trying to shoot marbles through a "ring of fire" or making transverse waves with gummy bears.
Approximately 1/3 of our students are English Language Learners and nearly 3/4 are from low income families, meaning most of my students face barriers to learning physics that have nothing to do with science comprehension.
My school is a true and supportive community. When you talk to any staff member, student, or parent, you know that everyone cares about the success of the school. No matter what issue a student is facing in the classroom or at home, the faculty and staff are always there to support him or her.
My Project
These Coulomb's Law apparatuses will allow my physics students to explore the basics of electrostatics. We will finally be able to do a hands-on lab for these concepts! My students are required to understand Coulomb's law for a standardized test and I have often felt at a loss to create authentic experiences for them that allow them to investigate this scientific principle. With these materials, we will be able to investigate the scientific question, "How does the amount of charge on two objects affect the amount of electrostatic force between them?" in an engaging way that will stimulate their interest and allow them to develop a deeper understanding of these concepts.
Students will also be able to use the magnetic field viewers to see magnetic fields with their own eyes and we'll be able to have deeper discussions about the connections between electricity and magnetism. With the help of these materials, my students and I will truly become "Smarter, Together."
My students long for hands-on experiments that allow them to make scientific discoveries on their own.
Many have told me that they have felt intimidated by science and didn't like their previous science classes. With these materials, we'll be able to look at concepts in new and engaging ways that allow students to make connections and rediscover their own natural curiosity.
