My first grade students are energetic and eager to learn. I work hard to build a positive classroom environment where everyone feels welcome, safe and cared for. Without necessary relationships, student learning cannot begin. My classroom is a general education first grade classroom with special needs children as well. They work hard and work well together to master curriculum being taught in class.
Many of my students have a variety of factors, both in and out of school, that challenge their education and I do my best to help students overcome any hurdles they may face throughout the year.
My goal is to individualize instruction so that students are receiving instruction at their point of need. I strive to create learning experiences where students are challenged with meaningful learning opportunities. Please consider helping my students grow.
My Project
I try to cover an in depth unit on shapes and their defining and non defining attributes with my first graders. While doing this I set up small learning stations that allow them to explore two and three dimensional shapes as well as attribute blocks.
These items will allow for differentiation within my classroom and allow everyone from my special education students to my above grade level students to learn at their own pace.
My students enjoy exploring with partners and in small groups and they are always excited to share their creations with each other.
Also, time is a difficult concept for first graders to understand. I believe this clock will allow me to explain time in a more visual way.
