"Science is fun. Science is curiosity. We all have natural curiosity. Science is a process of investigating. It's posing questions and coming up with a method. It's delving in," Sally Ride said. This is what science is now to my students, but the love of science could exceed their imaginations.
My students have the curiosity and imagination that sparks the true nature of Science.
My students need to have the opportunity to explore their surroundings by using fun-filled thinking skills in a hands-on approach. To achieve the academic skills needed for my students in their upcoming skills, we need to help them achieve ways to think out of the box. Our school is a Title 1 school and more than 90% of the students come from homes that cannot provide these hands-on experiences for them. Due to budget cuts this year, we are in desperate need of materials that can make learning science a life-long experience for the students. Science is not a paper and pencil type of subject, it is mostly based on observations and higher order thinking skills. Becoming a scientist starts for children when they are babies, and it builds with everything they explore and see throughout their lifetime. My students are full of inquisitive questions, and they love to explore to find these answers.
As a teacher, it is my goal to help build their scientific knowledge in a way that they will never forget. The experiences they can receive from having concrete, hands-on materials will ignite their love of science and motivate them to become more enriched in their learning. It is a known fact that when students experience learning hands-on, they are more likely to remember and build upon the knowledge. The resources you could provide for my classroom will allow my students to dig down deep into their imaginations and curiosity. Their thought process and questions will become more rigor and creative. The discovery and magnetic kits will give my students the tools to answer their questions and take investigating the world around them to a whole new realm. The specimens will allow the students to see what creatures look like up close, which will allow their thought process to go deeper than ever before. Most of my students don't have the means or materials to go beyond a textbook.
My goal is to create scientifically literate students by allowing them to have fun with more chances to learn through concrete, hands-on experiences.
I want to inspire my students through investigations. We need materials that facilitate their learning about the world around them. When children see things happen before their eyes, it becomes that more real to them. I always remind them that they are scientist, and by having the materials they need will allow them to see it too.Read More
