Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Malcolm Forbes said, "The purpose of education is to replace an empty mind with an open one." I love this quote. When my students come to class each day, I hope to inspire them to open their minds to new information and ideas.
This year we have a dynamic K-1 classroom.
As many of the new Common Core Standards for Kindergarten and First Grade overlap, we will be exploring science through Language Arts. Together we will embark on some exciting research projects studying owls, bats, and the oceans.
My Project
I was so lucky to receive a new laptop from our district, but it doesn't have a DVD drive. With the DVD drive from Donor's Choose we can use the wonderful DVDs in our library to begin our units of study. With the new keyboards, we can use our iPads to write up reports about what we learned through our own study and instruction. And finally, with the laminating pouches, we will be able to showcase our efforts for Open House.
Although we will move forward on these projects this year, it would make such a difference for the students to be able to have created their reports with the new keyboarding skills they will acquire by using the new materials.
With the DVD drive, they will be introduced to the many topics through educational videos we already have in our library. And with the laminating pouches they will be able to preserve their efforts in a lasting way.
