This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our fourth grade students are a part of a school district that has over 95% free and reduced lunch. Many students come from single-parent homes with multiple siblings. Our school serves students in first through sixth grades.
Students are encouraged to use creativity and critical thinking to help them become problem solvers.
Project-based learning is incorporated into the school day to allow students to research and study real-world situations and then work together to complete projects collaboratively. Students have access to technology as well as the school library to help with research.
There are 60 fourth grade students in our school. Our fourth graders are wonderful readers, scientist, and mathematicians. Our school had the top Science MAP scores in the district last year. The goal that we are striving for as fourth grade teachers is to assure that our students get the best learning opportunity available so that they will be able to be successful leaders in any occupation they choose as an adult.
My Project
The awesome books supported through this project will provide students access to various genres of books which will help them develop a better understanding of their culture as well as improve their overall reading ability. Allowing students the opportunity to share book experiences with classmates through book talks, read alouds, and partner reading will boost their interest and enjoyment for reading. Scholastic Kids Magazines will help students explore current events and develop better comprehension of nonfiction text.
The books funded through this project will give an opportunity to explore and gain knowledge about diverse topics, both historical and present, that have an impact on their daily lives.
The more students are exposed to books, the better readers they will become. That is our ultimate goal for our fourth grade students.
