My students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Some of my Pre-K students come to me with a wealth of experiences such as daycare and camps. For others, this is their first experience away from home, and they are a bit wary of all the new friends who surround them daily. Our school is a Title I school, and we have 90% give or take at the poverty level. As you can imagine, this has a big impact on the experiences that our students have prior to coming to us.
Taking all of these facts into account, it is my job and privilege to expose these young learners to as many positive social and academic experiences as possible while they are a part of our school community.
My Project
We are implementing a new curriculum next year that uses discovery tables throughout the year. Unfortunately mine was borrowed from another classroom and had to be returned. These tables would allow me to provide this piece of the curriculum implementation without taking monies needed for other classroom's resources.
I believe when a student's learning is centered on discovery that is obtained via their senses, it allows the brain to make connection among their neurons that allows for new and lasting growth.
These discovery tables will let me provide those various experiences for my students, in a flexible manner to best meet the needs of each child.
