My students include ALL the students in an elementary school grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Our students come from a wide variety of cultures, and most live below the poverty line. They come to school dealing with issues such as homelessness, parental incarceration, loss, and other trauma. However, they come through the doors knowing they are safe and ready to go for the day.
Each day we have 450 students come through our door excited to be at school!
School is their safe place where they know there are adults who love them, a schedule they can count on, and where they can focus on themselves and their own learning.
I am a school counselor who often works with whole classrooms as well as small groups and individual students to teach the skills needed to be successful. I hope to use this curriculum set to continue their education in a more relatable way.
Students come to school not knowing the basics of how to navigate the social world.
I plan to use this curriculum to guide them through real life examples and problem solve and discuss how they too can be successful in overcoming obstacles and interacting with others.
This project will be used by myself as well as the school social worker to help students build the skills they need.
