Help me give my students sensory sand, slime, model magic, finger paint, and artic and scaly squishies for sensory exploration at home due to COVID-19.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach K3 special education with a variety of students who need sensory exploration. My students have sensory needs that relate to Autism or Other Health Impairments. My students love creating, drawing, and exploring in a variety of sensory materials such as sand, shaving cream, magic model, and squeeze balls. With the sudden closure of school due to COVID-19 my students are lacking sensory exploration. I would like to provide a few sensory items that can keep them learning and exploring the rest of this school year and into the fall when we can see each other again.
My Project
My students are used to receiving sensory exploration each day at school. Now that they are home, they do not have sensory items to help them regulate themselves and they are having a hard time. Sensory materials that allow them to be creative such as finger paint, scented watercolors, sensory sand, model magic, and slime help them be creative. Sensory squeeze balls and flip sequins help the students calm down. All activities help regulate the students and give them a routine they were used to having at school. By calming the senses, it allows the students to focus on other things such as attending to a book, working on letters, numbers, shapes, or color recognition.
