Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My student's favorite daily question, "Is it time for centers?" They enjoy this time of day because they get to select their favorite station to visit. There they are able to use their creativity. This is the time when they get to paint, draw, color and be as creative as possible.
My classroom is composed of the youngest of kinder students at my school site.
They are part of a transitional kindergarten program designed for kinder students that turn 5 years old between September and December. For many, this is their first schooling experience and are adjusting to a full day school program. Most of my students are English Language Learners who need as many opportunities to acquire language as possible.
We are located in Southern California and are part of LA Unified School District. My transitional kindergarten students enjoy singing and dancing and participating in all activities. They have very short attention spans and, therefore, I have to provide a variety of activities to do with them to keep them focused and interested in their learning. Overall, they are an energetic and happy group. Many enjoy coloring and using paints and markers to draw and express themselves.
My Project
All these great art and music resources would fit wonderfully in our TK classroom. My students will be able to enhance their art projects with many of these items. For instance, the Gold and Silver Paints will bring shimmer to their art work. They will be able to use them along with the variety of Tempera Paint and Fingerpaint to create masterpieces. The watercolor paper and white drawing paper will give the students the perfect materials needed to create their artwork.
The Dot Art Painters will help the students feel more creative by dotting art projects or using the dotters to practice letter and number formation. These resources will give the students choices when it comes to being creative instead of just using the simple crayons and pencils we currently have.
The Sing, Learn and Play CD will help the students expand their creativity not just in arts but also with music. The Cd's will help the students get moving, singing and learning
It is important to ensure that we keep art and music alive within our classrooms and schools.
My students enjoying learning and exploring their creativity while learning. These resources would help improve my classroom by giving my students more materials and resources to ensure these and future students learn to appreciate and value art and music. By having art and music opportunities in our classroom daily helps my students enjoy coming to school and be actively engaged in their learning.
