Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Why do we need to know this?" This is a question we have all asked at least once in a math class, but my students want answers that apply to their everyday lives, such as going shopping or to a baseball game.
My students run the gamut from from high - level honors students to lower functioning students who struggle with the basics of mathematics to a mixed level ELL class, with some children functioning on an advanced level, to some students who struggle with the basics of English that we too often take for granted.
My Project
With these Real World Math Examples Problem Solving Kit, my students will be able to find a tangible answer to the question, "Why do we need to know this?" These kits contain nonfiction readers that will help increase students' English / Language Arts skills as well as their mathematics skills. The variety of the materials in the kits will help differentiate instruction and reach more students. The 5 Minute Math Journals will reinforce students' writing skills and help them talk about the mathematics they have just learned about, further increasing the connection between Mathematics and English / Language Arts.
The materials in this project, the Real World Math Examples Problem Solving Kit as well as the 5 Minute Math Journals, will help my students explore the connections between Math and the Real World.
This will further motivate students to learn and succeed in math. The 5 Minute Math Journals will further enhance students' learning of Mathematics. The different levels will ensure that all students' needs (as varied as they are) are met.
