Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are active and inquisitive young scientists who love to learn. Remember how exciting it felt to participate in hands-on science activities in the classroom as a child? My students bubble over with excitement and anticipation for these experiences.
My students consist of 42 amazing fourth graders.
We are part of a very large and still growing elementary campus. Many of my students are new to the community. Some are still acquiring the English Language, and some are eager and ready for higher level learning experiences. But most importantly, all of my students are wonderful young people with bright futures.
My Project
My students get very few opportunities to work with machines. This project will allow hands-on experiences with simple machines that connect to real world situations. I am hoping to be able to provide my students with resources that will enhance their knowledge of how machines work.
Opportunities to explore simple machines in the science classroom foster teachable moments that will carry forward to more challenging projects.
This project will allow my students to understand how machines, such as levers and pulleys, make work easier for us to accomplish. My goal is to cultivate in my students a desire to continue learning as they leave my classroom and head to 5th grade next year.
