My Students

Our school is a health and nutrition school in a city district of New York. The school serves grades pre-kindergarten through three. We are a tight-knit school where the students love to be in school. The students need fun and engaging activities to foster their love of learning at a young age.

Many of them may not have access to these experiences at home, so I want to provide that for them in the classroom.

Many of my students come from immigrant homes where English is not the first language. This has not hindered their enthusiasm and curiosities. They have questions and ideas but are always in need of resources for inspiration and reference.

My Project

Our school is located in one of the most diverse cities in our nation, yet many of our students still wonder, "Why are there no characters like me in books?" We are requesting several books that reflect a variety of cultures and books that teach social justice issues to create a library for our second and third graders.

We need books that promote cultural diversity and social justice!

Our titles include Each Kindness, The Three Questions and many more. We want our students to see that they are a valued part of society. We also want them to learn that are different cultures in the world and to understand there are different human experiences. We want our students to understand that there will be times in life that are unfair and the different tools and strategies on how they can deal with that. Most importantly, we want them to know that they are capable to changing the world whether it's through friendship or advocacy.
