My Students

I teach at a Title I public middle school in the Bay Area. I have an incredibly diverse class that is representative of our city.

My students are incredibly tenacious and curious.

They're not passive learners; instead, they question and think critically about the issues we discuss in class.

Given today's political and social climate and the effects they have on human relationships it's important they read novels that explore these issues and bring relevance to our youth's lives. My students are curious about the society and the world they live in.

My Project

Currently, my students don't have a complete set of books and the ones we do have are old with ripped out pages and missing covers.

The hardcover class set of William Golding's "Lord of the Flies" would allow every single student in each of my 8th-grade classes be able to not only follow along in class during reading, but also read at their own pace during independent reading time.

This project will give students the opportunity to begin exploring the power dynamics between groups of people, how their personal choices impact not only themselves but also people and the society they live in while incorporating their knowledge of philosophy and personal experiences.
