Exploring Graphic Novels Brings Us Closer Together
My students need 15 graphic novels to participate in a book club.
This project expired on January 28, 2016.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students are an enthusiastic group of 5th graders who are up for everything life has to offer them.
Our school is located in one of the poorest communities in our state, yet we are rich in many ways.
Our school is an oasis of learning, and our students come to school every day eager to learn. We know that in order to close the achievement gap, our students need to read a lot every day. This goal can present challenges when there are not enough resources to support it.
Graphic novels are very motivating for students, especially English language learners. My students cannot get enough of this genre, and yet, they have limited access due to the fact that their community resources are very limited. The public library is a shadow of its former self. There are no bookstores in our city, and our school does not have a library.
Your support will provide my students with books that they can share in a book club format, where they read and conduct literary conversations about their books.
Some of these books will support an all-girls graphic novel lunch book club, while others will be available on the shelf for all to enjoy at any time. We really hope that donors will find it in their hearts to support our reading. We won't let you down, we promise!
