I have a great group of 5th graders this year. I have 120 students of varying ability levels. I do a great deal of differentiating to give each student or group what they need in order to learn and be successful. My students look forward to Science because they can learn while having fun.
Most of my homeroom students are struggling readers and are on IEP's.
Being able to provide these students with authentic learning experiences is very important to me. I see how engaged they are when we are doing labs and creating projects. I want to be able to provide them with as many experiences as possible.
My Project
My students need Food Chains Food Webs, What Is a Food Web Book Collection, Food Web Collapse Game, for our Life Science unit on ecosystems. I am very excited to provide my students with experiences that will allow for them learn about the world around them. I currently do many whole-class demonstrations for my students because we just don't have the supplies, or funding to get supplies, for students to complete many labs. Our Life Science unit calls for students to fully understand how food chains and food webs work. These materials will allow my students to be able to complete lab stations in small groups or with a partner and will give them a much deeper understanding of the concepts. With these materials, students will be able to learn from each other while having fun!
