I am a media coordinator at a Title I (low income) school. My students love to read and are eager to learn. Most of my students are from low income housing and numerous students have been displaced over the last few years due to hurricanes and flooding.
Lack of reading materials in my student's homes increases the need for more reading materials in the school library.
My students frequent the library several times a day seeking reading materials. Funding this project will support my students' love for reading.
My Project
Although the majority of my students are Caucasian, approximately 40% come from different ethnicities. Students do not always understand and are frequently asking about their classmates different customs and traditions. My students want to understand the differences.
My students' love for reading will help them explore different cultures with books that feature differences in their lives.
My students will gain knowledge of how we are all different but the same.
At this time, our school library is lacking in books with different cultural backgrounds. Funding of this project will supply our library with materials to aid in teaching multicultural differences.
