This year I am teaching an integrated preschool program at a culturally diverse elementary school with a population of over 60% free or reduced-price lunch. I have a dynamic mix of 3-5 year old students. Half of my students are diagnosed with a variety of special needs, and the other half are typically developing children.
Many of my students are faced with challenges, including developmental delays, Autism, speech and language delays, physical delays, cognitive delays, and behavioral issues.
I strive each day to meet the diverse, individual needs of every student in my classroom. My classroom is a busy, student-centered, engaging environment where children can feel safe as they learn through play.
My Project
I want to give my students a comfortable place to look at, listen to, and explore books. My goal is to increase my students' love of books and create a love for reading.
My students participate in our listening center and library center on a daily basis.
They love being read to! These centers help develop early literacy skills as students follow along with text and begin to recognize the connection between spoken and written words. I would like to give my students a new CD player for our listening center, along with some audio stories, and comfortable seats. Our current CD player doesn’t work properly and often prevents my students from a purposeful and enjoyable experience. A new CD player and headphones will help my students become engaged and excited while listening to books on CD. It will also allow my students to access this center independently. I would also like to give my students some new books for the library center. I am looking to provide my students with books that will support our fall classroom themes, targeted skills, and vocabulary.
