Exploring Books for 180 Days

Help me give my students the opportunity to explore great books and have literature that is meaningful to them. If children say that they don't like to read, more than likely, they just haven't read the right book.

My Students

My students attend a small rural school in Indiana. I have a large number of students, yet, they are full of life, curious and eager to learn. The part of my profession that I enjoy the most is teaching them to learn and grow through reading. In my classroom, we have book clubs that meet daily. This is where we have authentic conversations about books and my students learn to use reader’s notebooks to grow in their thinking as they read.

My Project

Daily book clubs with these exciting age appropriate books will have my students completely engaged in discussions and note-taking in their reader's notebooks. With these new books, my students will travel with James in his giant peach, ride along with Ralph on his motorcycle, help Emery find the magic of an old medicine cabinet, find the courage to throw the heat, and unravel the 39 clues. They will learn how to visualize, make connections, delve into characters and their traits, summarize key details, find text evidence, and better comprehend through asking questions before, during, and after reading. Let the reading begin!
